Course Requirements

Weekly Journal Responses

Students will be responsible for submitting weekly journal entries using Moodle. Weekly journal entries will be due by midnight on Sunday. Entries should be about a paragraph or two long, and should address the student’s response to the material from the preceding week. The enrollment key to access our forum on Moodle will be given out during the first week of class.

Medieval Re-Write Project

Students will use their newfound skills in Middle English to re-write items such as an excerpt from a menu, a movie description, cooking directions, or something similar in Middle English. The excerpt should not be longer than a short paragraph (about four sentences).

Papers

Students will turn in a total of two papers (one 5-7 page paper, one 8-10 page paper) based on the readings, films, and other digital media using paper prompts that will be distributed two weeks before the due date for each assignment. Late papers are subject to a grade penalty of 3.3% for each day that they are late, including weekends. Papers that are late over three days will not be accepted.

Web Authoring Assignment

Students will have the opportunity to revise their 8-10 page paper and submit the revised copy online via a website designed by the student. No previous knowledge of website design is required. Workshops on Dreamweaver will be announced during the course of the quarter. The grade for this assignment will depend on the quality of the student’s revision, their overall creativity in the design of their website, and their oral presentation of their project in class.

Final Exam

The final exam for this course will be cumulative and based on the readings and lectures.
